Welcome to LJ. Let me show you around... There's zandev, you'll probably want to put him on your flist (friends list). Just mousing over the little headbod thing to the left of his name will give you 'add to friends list' as an option - that's the case anywhere you see an ljname.
Other people you may wish to find include: quisalan, she who ninjas; waistcoatmark, his name is self explanatory; undyingking, he who runs freeform games.
It's generally thought bad form to use people's real names on LJ, they might not want everyone to know what that name is. If you don't know how to tag a name, as I've done above, you can just write out the ljname in plaintext.
If a friend doesn't have an lj I usually make up a fake ljname for them and write it in plaintext. For example I have sometimes referred to you as LadyInRed. Opinion is split between those who refer to TheHattedOne like this and those who link to the angrymarmot journal created for her as a joke. She prefers the former, since the other one makes her sound like a smaller crapper version of surlygibbon, who seems to have deleted his journal or I've got the name wrong. (It's something like that though.)
There are lots more of us on lj, if you look at our profile pages (found by mousing over the headbod) you can take an educated guess as to who is who and start adding more people. When you add a friend posts from their journal appear on your flist unless they have locked them to a group that doesn't include you.
That's enough of a tour for now. I'll explain locking and filters some other time. Happy journaling!
