I am currently driving a hire car (Vauxhall Corsa) while my car is in the body shop being fixed. It was damaged overnight recently. There was no note, but the white paint and type of damage leads me to suspect one of the local white vans. I don't know which one (I've looked at them for traces of my paint!) and even if I did work it out I doubt I'd confront the owner.

Driving the hire car has reminded me how differently other drivers treat you, depending on the type of vehicle you are in. Taking a standard petrol hatchback (e.g. a Toyota Corolla) as a reference point:

- If you are driving a transit van, everyone gets out of the way
- If you are driving a diesel hatchback or a people carrier, everyone ignores you
- If your car looks like a local mini-cab, all the mini-cabs are nice to you
- If you are driving a sports car, most people wave and smile and a few try to race you

I want my car back. The hire car has both worse performance and worse fuel economy and no-one lets me out at junctions.
