I finished my student days with a mostly black wardrobe and over the years I have slowly added lots of deep colours, mainly burgundy, purple and olive green. Last summer (on the few occasions when it was sunny!) I used tried using white as a base colour for outfits, often paired with grass greeen. As a recovering goth I felt terribly conspicuous in white, but everyone seemed to think it worked well. Encouraged by that, this winter I started switching the base colour of my winter wardrobe from black to chocolate brown, which is rather kinder to my colouring.

I'm now making the next leap, into wearing summer brights! I'm adding touches of various bright colours to my wardrobe to see which work well and make me feel confident. Tomato red and emerald green I'm now happy with and some recent experiments with cobalt blue have got good reactions. I've just bought purple sandals and a hot pink bag to brighten things up even further. I still need a sundress (I have no washable cotton dresses, just ridiculous dry-clean-only evening dresses) and am looking for a colourful one, probably red. I'd ideally like a knee length one with short sleeves, a fairly fitted waist and a v-neck. Anyone know where to look for such a thing?

Shanghai! Made to measure for a pittance. So when are you visiting!

Try East. They do a lot of good colours (IMO!) and that style of dress sounds like just the kind of thing they do.
