Here's a lovely version of "For the beauty of the earth" which will be the opening hymn for our wedding. Even if you think you know the hymn, the tune I've chosen (Dix) may not be the one you are expecting. Do have a listen and (if you are coming to the wedding) maybe even practice a little :)

Is there another tune?? Dix is the only obvious one IMO. ;-)

Yep, and the other one's nothing like as good.

Oh, Rutter. Well, that explains that. ;-)

I didn't know that one at all, and don't much like it now I've heard it -- it sounds like it was written more for specialist choirs than for the sort of massed bellowing of my hymnny experience.

I think we used that tune last time we sang it in church and it's a lot prettier than the alternative version. :) Excellent choice!

That's the version we used to sing at school...

I rather like it (though Youtube boy was sadly rather off key)

but I'm an evil fascist when it comes to tuning.

Oh , and the other one is very odd- some sort of syncopated excuse for a choir auditon?

I must admit the simpler tunes can be more satisfying than the clever varients... School once did a wierd-arse version
of the Holly and the Ivy that just set my teeth on edge.
